Mobile Broadband Set to Become the Future of Communications in the UK

According to data recently acquired by Mobile Today, mobile broadband sales have shot up to around 20,000 a week. This number is predicted to rise even further if the trends persist.

After the release of the Digital Britain report, mobile broadband has come back into focus. It is expected to be a large part of the future of communications in the UK. Despite the present economic problems in the country, mobile broadband sales have been increasing steadily. Gfk, a market research company, has reported that mobile broadband sales have increased from around 27,000 in October last year, to 58,000 in January this year. That is almost a 100% increase.

The exponential rise in the sales of mobile broadband can be attributed to the extensive advertising and marketing by the dominant mobile broadband operators. They offer various low-cost schemes to attract customers, including the ‘Laptop Bundle’ scheme, in which customers are offered a laptop along with a mobile broadband connection. No wonder then that the dongle has managed to itself, as observed by a salesman.

When mobile broadband was first introduced, it was primarily used by businessmen on the go. However, it is now being used by a large number of people to stay connected to the internet wherever they may be. With the emergence of a large variety of internet-compatible phones, it has now become more convenient to use mobile broadband. What has also helped this trend pick up pace is the fact that mobile broadband is already widely used in the UK because of the lack of fixed-line broadband in the country.
