The Most Watched TV Show in Canada

Flashpoint is the most watched TV serial of Canada based on the Toronto Police Emergency Task Force. The show has a big number of viewers in Canada and US. 1.35 million in Canada and 9.11 million in US from January 9, 2009 to May. The pilot episode was watched on CTV by 1.11 million viewers, earning the #1 spot in its timeslot. This series had been sold to 50 countries outside of US and Canada. Two Flashpoint episodes, “Attention Shoppers” and “Who’s George?”, were nominated as finalists in the 2009 WGC Screenwriting Awards.

The show’s story line is about an emotional journey of an elite tactical unit, called Strategic Response Unit (SRU). They are a highly equipped force which deals with hostage situations, gangs, and bomb disposal. They also talk down suicidal teens, protect the Pope and other dynamic duties. All weapons and gear used by SRU is supplied by the movie Armaments Group of Toronto which includes Heckler & Koch MP5 (9mm Submachine gun), Diemaco/Colt Canada C8 Carbine (Service rifle), Remington 700 (Rifle), Glock 17 (pistol), Taser (Electroshock weapon), CornerShot (Special purpose weapon), Tactical shield and Flash bang (Hand grenade). The team’s vehicles include Ford Crown Victoria (cruisers), Chevrolet Suburban and International Truck (4300 series tactical truck). But the play is not all about weapons and war but emotions. SRU tried their best for not to use any weapons and try to solve situations with strong negotiations. It addresses the egregious use of force needed to defend against force and the guilt that comes from fighting evil with evil actions. As in the show’s own words, “We’re not here to target practice; we’re here to save lives”.
